Romana’s Pilates

What is Pilates?

kbpilates3Pilates is a system of over 500 exercises that engage the mind and condition the body. It is a balance of strength and flexibility training that improves posture, reduces stress and creates long, lean muscles without bulk.

Pilates works the entire body with a particular concentration on strengthening and stabilizing the core “the abdomen, back and pelvic gridle– sometimes referred to as the power house.” Pilates focuses on quality of movement rather than quantity, leaving you invigorated rather than exhausted after a session.

Pilates exercises are performed on a mat or on specialized apparatus original designed by Joseph Pilates, such as, Reformer, Cadillac, and Wunda Chair.

kerri and david“I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 7 years ago. Shortly thereafter I was introduced to Pilates. The Pilates has been extremely important and enabling me to control the progression of the disease. I have found Pilates helpful with my balance (yes, you can improve your balance), flexibility of my spine, and overall agility and muscle control (for example – I have no problem getting out of a low beach chair). My favorite Pilates Instructor over that seven-year period has been Kerri Bender. She is not only extremely competent, but is also empathetic to my condition and has modified the normal Pilates routine to fit my needs. Pilates with Kerri has also been important in keeping my spirits up. Despite our difference in age, I have always been comfortable with her and would highly recommend her to anyone.”
